GenderSAFE supports research and higher education institutions in developing and implementing comprehensive policies to prevent and address gender-based violence.

Building on UniSAFE’s evidence and 7P framework, the project focuses on implementation: strengthening institutional capacity, developing practical resources and supporting the structures and change agents involved in institutional change.

Yellow Window leads GenderSAFE’s training and capacity-building work, leads the development and piloting of the institutional data collection and monitoring methodology and coordinates the Student Circle within the project’s Community of Practice.

Assess institutional capacity

The GenderSAFE Institutional Self-Assessment Tool helps research-performing organisations understand where they stand in preventing and responding to gender-based violence.

Based on seven Impact Drivers and six stages of institutional development, the tool helps institutions identify strengths and gaps and provides tailored recommendations for further action.

BUILD KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Yellow Window leads the development of GenderSAFE training for research organisations and policymakers.

The programme covers the 7P framework and specialised areas including institutional support, active bystander intervention, gender-based violence affecting trans and non-binary people, resistance to change, participatory policy development and Training of Trainers.

The resulting training packages, scripts, presentations and resources are brought together in the GenderSAFE Catalogue of Training Materials.

support institutional change

GenderSAFE provides practical support to the people responsible for advancing institutional responses to gender-based violence.

The guide Strategic framing to tackle resistance to change, edited by Yellow Window, helps change agents understand stakeholders, anticipate resistance and develop arguments that connect gender-based violence policies with institutional priorities and responsibilities.

Together with institutional assessment and training, it supports the move from formal commitments towards sustained implementation.

Strengthen participation

Yellow Window coordinates the Student Circle within GenderSAFE’s Community of Practice.

The Circle creates a structured space for students to contribute as change agents, bringing their knowledge of institutional realities into discussions on barriers, gaps and possible improvements to policy and practice.

More broadly, the Community of Practice connects experience from across institutions with the tools, training and policy work developed through GenderSAFE.
